design is
intrinsic in nature and intrinsic in us. we know when we are driving
a well designed car, or wearing a well designed pair of jeans, and
we pay well for good cars, and good jeans.
the value in
good design is many fold. good design can sell a product, it can
make office workers better workers, and it can make our homes and
gardens sanctuaries.
good design,
makes me well balanced , give me a sense of pleasure. bad design
makes me crazy, which gives pause to the thought, can good design
lead to world peace and solve the problems of the world? i certainly
think it’s worth a try……..
i once designed
an evening for a very large wall street firm who, were about to
entertain a group of japanese business people who had just
purchased a huge part of the company. everybody at the “firm” were
very nervous, uptight, uneasy.
what I designed
was a 60 foot by 30 foot Japanese rock and water garden with details
that would make the japanese to feel at home and beauty that made
the “firm” relax a little bit. the tables were set around the garden
in the middle of the large conference room on the 30th
floor. each guest were able to take in the peace and tranquility
created by the design and embrace the moment, enjoy the fellowship
and allow for perhaps a brief time the pleasure of the senses,
visually in this case.
the meeting was
a huge success.
